Today (or until recently) ruins, in the future a cultural centre or apartments and studios or a park. This is the fate that is in store for Prague's iconic railway stations, which have been waiting decades for their transformation.

What will they look like? That's what we look at in this episode of the Live Prague series.

Vyšehrad Station
The Art Nouveau station building is one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most run-down railway stations in Prague. The last train stopped here in 1960 and in 2007 Czech Railways sold the station and its land. However, the building continued to deteriorate. In 2024, a turning point came when the station was bought by developer Milorad Miško Miškovič, who plans to build 170 small apartments and studios here. Cafés, restaurants, shops and other services are to be built on the ground floor of the station and the new buildings.

Bubeneč railway station
The historic station building, which last welcomed a train 10 years ago, has undergone a sensitive and much-needed reconstruction thanks to Prague 6. Although trains will no longer be built here, the station will open to the public in August. And what can train fans, and not only train fans, look forward to? For example, a bistro, whose garden will be right on the platform, a bicycle rental service or a hall full of sports attractions, as well as a gallery. The cultural centre has been given the name Stanice 6 and will be run by the trio Richard Preisler, Martin Krb and Martin Kontra, who are behind the famous Bajkazyl.

Bubny Station
The biggest transformation is planned in Holešovice - not only a new train station and station hall, but also the entire railway line for 4.7 billion. And the construction must not be delayed. It is crucial for the development of the brownfield in Bubny, so it should be finished before the houses start to grow here.
The Bubny station will have 4 station tracks and 3 platforms on the first floor, and the ground floor below the tracks will be used for check-in facilities and shops. On the roof there will be a grassy area to relax with a breathtaking view. An office building is planned for the future.
But the changes in Holešovice do not end there - a new station is being built at the Exhibition Grounds next to the Holešovice Cemetery. A bonus is the footbridge that will connect this station with Stromovka.

So how do you like the upcoming transformation of Prague's railway stations? Are you looking forward to them, or would you imagine something different? Let us know in the comments!
