The Kauai island outrigger canoe racing championships were held in less than ideal weather conditions on July 22nd at Hanalei Bay. There was nearly nonstop drizzle through the day which prevented me from flying the drones that I get most of the good footage with. In spite of that, there was a lot of fun and good competition.
Results of the races mean that 8 of the 10 KOA member clubs have teams that are eligible to compete in the state championships to be held this year in Hilo Bay on Hawaii island.
This has been an awesome year of racing! Many new paddlers were able to participate both in the long distance and regatta races. And, KOA set a new benchmark with more than a thousand registered competitors for the first time ever!!!
