Join Skipper Chris as we look at PILOTAGE PLANNING

Pilotage is navigating anywhere you can bump into things. If you are in sailing waters where it is shallow enough to run aground or you are near the coast, then you need to understand how to pilot your vessel.

“The biggest danger at sea is: land! – Ocean sailors have it easy”

Plan Before You Go - “Never go where your mind hasn’t been already”

Charts, pilot book photos, Almanacs, tidal stream atlases, local knowledge all help your paint a picture in your mind of an unknown port before you get there. This is the art of the navigator and part of the fun.

We will look at preparing a Pilotage plan

The Theory: Skipper Chris will introduce you to:

• Pilotage techniques
• Transits & Contours
• Clearing Bearings
• Back Bearing & Turning points
• Using GPS

To get the most out of the zoom session, each participant has to complete the pre-reading and tasks/questions sent out prior to the session.

Zoom session:
• Intro
• What is a Pilotage plan
• Pilotage techniques
• Information needed for the Pilotage Plan
