I hate spending hard earned money on something i can make. A quick DIY lanyard for rapid attachment to a helmet (or other Velcro surface). This was made with items i had sitting around. You could easily make this with shock cord as well (instead of 550). Having something like this is also good in an emergency (your fancy high priced lanyard breaks).
Surviving isn't about what you can buy, it is about your ability to adapt.
