Today, there are only a few places in Europe where oil is extracted on land. If you are interested, you can witness the fascinating process of black gold mining around Fier. However, along with this breathtaking opportunity comes a glimpse of the dark side - the clearly visible devastation of the environment.

The Patos-Marinëz field currently occupies the position of the largest onshore oil deposit on the continent. During almost a hundred years of industrial mining, a total of 2,400 wells have been dug here, producing heavy oil. This oil is subsequently processed in two Albanian refineries - Fieru and Ballshi.
