My first trip back in Wales after my Scottish Adventures took me back to the beginning of my Nuttall journey. Whist Tal Y Fan wasn’t my first Nuttall, it was the first walk I attempted from the Nuttall book back in 2016, as I started to look for tops I had not done before. On this occasion, I came up with a slight variation to the walk in the book, where I reversed the route and stayed on the ridge at Tal Y Fan and descended at the far end before walking back across the front of the mountain. It was a really enjoyable route which I would recommend. During the day I also picked up Pen Y Castell and Drum, the largest of the tops, if also the least dramatic. A final mention to Carnedd Y Ddelw, which was demoted from Nuttall status, being a couple of feet short of the required 15m ascent required.

About Rudolph’s Mountains

Welcome to the Rudolph’s Mountains channel, which records my journey to visit all the mountains in England and Wales over 2000ft, known as The Nuttalls. They were named after John & Anne Nuttall, who researched and created the initial list of tops, and published quite excellent books on how you could visit them all. I don’t always follow their routes, as I prefer to research the route myself, but I always use their route as a starting point.

I have been making movies of my days in the mountains for a couple of years now, initially just to share my adventures with friends and family. I can’t get out all the time, due to family and work commitments, so it’s going to take many years to get through them all, health permitting.
Each Episode is edited down from the original movie to around 30 minutes or less and then released on a Saturday at 12 noon. There won’t be a movie every week though. Each Episode has subtitles, as even I can’t understand what I’m saying half of the time!

If you are planning to venture out on the hills yourself, please make sure you research your route and that you are properly prepared. Always check the mountain weather and ground condition forecast, but don’t trust it! Mountain weather can be unpredictable, so prepare for the worst. Enjoy the mountains, but always take care so that you return home safely.

Thanks for watching.
