Bushings are one of the best budget upgrades you can make to improve the handling of a car, especially one that is older as the stock bushings are probably shot. While bushings are super cheap, they are pretty labor intensive. It can be done without a press, but a press is definitely the easiest way to do it (however, I have done every bushing I have ever installed without one). Every single bushing for the Mini only costs me about $500 in total. Every part is either PowerFlex (supported by ECS Tuning), SuperPro, or stock replacements from FCPEuro.

In part 1, we will do the front bushings all together by dropping the subframe; in part 2, we will be doing the rears. Install wasn’t too bad, but do yourself a favor and spray everything with penetrating oil. It took longer than expected to swap everything out, but it was more tedious and annoying that it was difficult.

Polyurethane bushings have gotten a bad reputation for being noisy and harsh, but I haven’t experienced any of the with the 350Z, E39, and now the R53. The car rides just as smoothly, but the steering feels incredibly direct. At Roebling Road, the car felt so composed; it’s just a joy to drive.
