Hindu devotees immersed the idols of Goddess Durga on Tuesday in the Cox’s Bazar ocean ignoring the Cyclone Hamoon, after a five-day-celebration of their biggest religious festival.
On the occasion, Cox's Bazar sea beach turned into a diverse assortment of thousands of visitors.
Devotees made farewell to the idol of Goddess Durga chanting "Ma Durga Ki Jai" (victory of mother Durga) at Laboni Point of the beach.
Over hundreds of idols were brought to the venue from various unions in the district, according to the Cox's Bazar Puja Udjapan Parishad.
On the day of the immersion, also known as Bijoya Dashami, Hindu people bid farewell to Goddess Durga with final prayers, along with beating of drums and cymbals.
"This year, Durga Puja had been celebrated in 296 mandaps with 141 idols and 155 Ghot idols in Cox's Bazar," said Advocate Ranjit Das, president of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Committee Cox's Bazar chapter.
Members of the parliament, deputy commissioners, political leaders and police officials visited various mandaps across the district after the puja began on Friday, added Ranjit.
Durga Puja had been celebrated without any untoward incidents this year as police, members of the Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Ansar arranged foolproof security, said Babul Sharma, general secretary of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Committee, Cox's Bazar. Source - TBS
