Our Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery Field Notes prompt for this two weeks is butterfly butterflies insects beetles or bees.

Im using one of the very first vintage linens I started collecting that features a gorgeous vintage embroidery design of a butterfly with flowers on its wings.

This combines with a quote that I will be stitching onto the piece: ‘Butterflies are self-propelled flowers’.

I’ve combined this with some fussy cut pieces from a beautiful vintage fabric featuring florals including flowers, butterflies and birds. This slow stitch or slow stitching project also includes small hexagons or hexies made using liberty fabric and eppiflex templates. The border features scrap pieces of Liberty lawn floral fabrics.

In this video I show how I stitch in with Brazilian embroidery thread to add accents to one of the flowers.

Here’s a link to a video sharing how you can upcycle an old crochet doily into a beautiful colourful butterfly:

With many thanks to Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ and Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ who put so much thought and time into coming up with and running this great free collaboration. It is an honour to be part of such a lovely community of slow stitchers.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing what slow stitching pieces you are creating for #roxysjournalofstitchery field notes or your own projects.

Cheers,
Christine
