Probably the last decade where they actually made big, violent, popcorn movies regularly for adults, the 1990s followed the golden age of 80s action cinema like a fist through a jaw. Solid, dumb, glorious action, audiences were mercifully spared the gratuitous back stories to explain a hero’s motives and extreme prejudices against bad guys, and were shielded from political correctness, and the soft, flabby hands of corporate suits watering down a potentially good adult action movie into something you could take a five-year old child to. Of course, films like Terminator 2 and the Matrix utilised computer-generated graphics in an original way that seemed at the time as big as video tape giving way to DVDs. This would prove to open a flood gate of shite in the 21st century with computer effects often replacing story, acting, dialogue, and good old ultra-violence, and perhaps this was fine if you were corporate and/or retarded.
