The Siege of Carthage (149–146 BCE) was the conclusive battle of the Third Punic War between Rome and Carthage, resulting in Carthage's total destruction. After a prolonged siege marked by fierce resistance, the Roman general Scipio Aemilianus finally breached the city walls, leading to intense street-to-street combat. The Romans systematically destroyed the city, killing or enslaving its population and razing Carthage to the ground. This event marked the end of the Punic Wars, solidifying Rome's dominance in the Mediterranean and permanently eliminating Carthage as a rival power.
