My exploration of space contemplates cultural resonances implicit in architecture, from design to social value, and how these condition its various readings. This approach to dissecting architectural anatomies and spaces through my drawings, installations and public sculpture explores the possibility of multiple conflicts embedded in them as a result of the many decisions “hidden” in their structures.

Alexandre Arrechea (b. 1970, Trinidad, Cuba) is a sculptor, painter, and video artist who divides his time between New York, Madrid, Havana, and Miami. A founding member of the Cuban collective Los Carpinteros, Arrechea returned to individual practice in 2003, focusing on large-scale sculptural installations and watercolors. He is best known for his 2013 Nolimits project, which consisted of ten large-scale sculptures of bent and twisted iconic New York buildings installed along Park Avenue. His work was featured at the 2016 Coachella Music Festival in Palm Springs, and dozens international venues, including the Venice, Sao Paolo, Havana, Shanghai, Tapei, and Gwangju bienniales. His work is in the collections of MoMA, Museo Reina Sofia, Brooklyn Museum, LACMA, CIFO, Museo del Barrio, among others.
