The Ledge House, designed by Desai Chia Architecture, is a thoughtfully crafted home in Cornwall, Connecticut, that harmonizes with the historical context of the Connecticut Valley while embracing sustainability. Utilizing the existing foundation of a previous cabin, the new structure sits on a challenging rock ledge near a prehistoric boulder, drawing inspiration from local indigenous barns and the West Cornwall Covered Bridge. The house features a clever balloon framing system, vaulted ceilings, and Shou Sugi Ban siding for durability. The central breezeway connects the living, dining, and kitchen areas, offering seamless indoor-outdoor living and breathtaking views. Completed in 2019, this 2400-square-foot home showcases a blend of historical resonance, environmental friendliness, and innovative design.
