Was Chase Briscoe's win in the Southern 500 the most impressive upset of the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season?

The 2024 season was defined by dominance from Kyle Larson and Tyler Reddick and a series of upset winners who stole playoff bids from some of the sport's most consistent teams. From Daniel Suarez's thrilling victory at Atlanta to Austin Cindric's Gateway triumph and Harrison Burton's shocker at Daytona, there was no shortage of surprises as we made up the 16-driver field in the Cup Series playoffs.

In this clip from PRN's Fast Talk, Brad Gillie makes the case for Briscoe being the most impressive upset winner. Not only did he pass three cars with a move out of a video game, he had to hold off two-time champion Kyle Busch with fresher tires over the final 20 laps. He also had to find a way to beat Kyle Larson, who dominated the entire race before a late caution bunched the field up with less than 50 laps to go.

On the flip side, there are some surprises outside the playoffs. Kyle Busch, Chris Buescher and Ross Chastain were three popular picks to make the playoffs but all three former winners find themselves on the outside as we head to Atlanta Motor Speedway and the Round of 16.
