খুদে গোগোল কখনও যেমন ভারতের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে বেড়াতে গিয়ে খুন, অপহরণ, চুরি, ডাকাতির রহস্যে জড়িয়ে পড়েছে আবার তেমনি বাড়িতে বসে বসে পশ্চিমের ব্যালকনি থেকে বা তেলিফোনে আড়িপাতা থেকেও জড়িয়ে পড়েছে নতুন রহস্যে। এই খণ্ডে সংকলিত হয়েছে গোগোলের একটি ছোট গল্প ।

'সোনালী পাড়ের রহস্য' নামক 'গোগোল অমনিবাস'কে কেন্দ্র করে 'গোয়েন্দা গোগোল' (২০১৩) নামে সিনেমা নির্মিত হয়। এর পরিচালক হলেন অরিন্দম দে। ক্ষুদে অভিনেতা অহিজিৎ ঘোষ গোগোলের চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেন। এছাড়া অভিনয় করেছেন ইন্দ্রনীল সেনগুপ্ত, সাহেব চট্টোপাধ্যায়, রুনা বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় প্রমুখেরা।

'গোয়েন্দা গোগোল'-এর মতো 'গোগোল অমনিবাস'কে কেন্দ্র করে 'গোগোলের কীর্তি' (২০১৪) সিনেমাটি নির্মিত হয়। এর পরিচালক হলেন পম্পি ঘোষ মুখোপাধ্যায়। সিনেমাটি নির্মিত হয় সমরেশ বসুর 'গোগোল অমনিবাস'-এর দুটি গল্পকে কেন্দ্র করে। সেগুলি হল --- 'গোগোলের রয়রাজা উদ্ধার' ও 'মহিষমর্দিনী উদ্ধার'। 'গোয়েন্দা গোগোল' সিনেমার মতো এই সিনেমাতেও ক্ষুদে অভিনেতা অহিজিৎ ঘোষ গোগোল চরিত্রে অভিনয় করেন।

As per the writer Samaresh Basu, Gogol's father Samiresh Chatterjee, was a fan of Russian writer Nikolai Gogol and hence, named his only child as Gogol Chatterjee. Gogol's real name is Uday Kumar Chatterjee. Basu crafted Gogol as an intelligent boy, obedient to his parents but extremely curious about anything happening around him. He often finds himself entangled in a web of mystery. His curiosity drives him to solve mysteries, some of which are life-threatening. This fictional detective character is still very popular for children. In some cases, a private investigator from Naihati, Mr. Ashok Thakur, helps and saves Gogol from the criminals.

Samaresh Basu had chanced upon the name ‘Gogol’ when he went to the Kumbh Mela to research for his novel ‘Amrita Kumbher Sandhane’. Most of his works chronicled the life and cases of Gogol, a favourite of the kids in the 80s and 90s, such as ‘Garadheen Jaanalay Rakkhos’, ‘Gogol Kothay’, ‘Kairong Mother Gogoler Kando’, and ‘Ratna Rahasya O Gogol’ among many others. A distinguished writer with more than 200 short stories and 100 novels, Samaresh Basu was an important architect of modernism in the sphere of the novel and the short story in Bengal. His novel ‘Shamba’ — an interesting modern interpretation of the Puranic tales — won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980.
