The Matsya or fish rescued the Vedas from the depth of the flood.
The Kurma saved the world from drowning by supporting it on his back.
The Varaha or the wild boar held the world safe above the water on the tips of his tusks.
Next Lord Vishnu appeared in the form of the Narasimha or the half-man half-lion to save his devotee Prahlad from the persecution of the evil Hiranyakashipu.
The Bamana or the dwarf came to destroy the pride Raja Bali had in his well known charity and generosity.
Taking the form of Parshuram Lord Vishnu destroyed the erring race of the Kshatriyas.
As Lord Rama he slew the mighty Ravana.
Again as Lord Buddha he preached Ahimsa.
Finally the Kalki Avatar which is yet to come, is to ride into the world on a horse with the purpose of destroying all non- believers.
