The Union Government, on June 28, notified the new Forest Conservation Rules, 2022. The new rules propose many changes, which the government claims will make the approval process for developmental works easier. However, the new rules will let private developers cut down forests without first ensuring the consent of the tribals and other forest dwellers, a change that violates a provisions of the Forest Rights Act, 2006.
