Deepak Tal is a small little lake located on Manali Leh Highway, at a distance of 20 kilometers from Jispa and 43 kilometers from Keylong. It is one of the two lakes that you will see while traveling towards Baralacha La Pass, the other being Suraj Tal. It is a small body of water but is very scenically located and acts as a stopover for people traveling from Manali to Leh or vice versa.

The lake is located at an altitude of 3750 meters. It is fed by glacial melts during the monsoon season and freezes completely in the winters. The calm waters of Deepak Tal act as a mirror, reflecting the calm surroundings of snow-capped peaks. There are a couple of dhabas near the lake where you can also grab something to eat. You can go even boating in this small lake.


In this series, we will be taking you all to the amazing and beautiful Himalayas. We traveled from Manali to Jispa via Beautiful Solang Valley, Atul Tunnel, Sisue, and Keylong.
In this series , you will see the journey from Keylong to Jispa (Jispa Valley). We traveled by our car, Wagon R. Keylong to Jispa distance is around 23 KMs.
Sissu to Jispa distance is around 53 KMS.
Atul Tunnel to Jispa distance is around 66 KMs.
Solang Valley to Jispa distance is around 80 KMs.
Manali to Jispa distance is around 93 KMs if you are traveling via Atul Tunnel. The distance between Manali to Jispa is around 122 KMs if you are traveling via Rohtang pass.

We traveled to Jispa from Manali via Atul Tunnel because Rohtang Pass is not open now (it is closed because of snow).

Once Rohtang Pass will open (mostly Rohtang Pass will be open for tourists from 1st week of May - depends on the weather) you should go to Jispa from Malani via Rohtang Pass only (View is outstanding from Rohtang Pass).

It will take around 4 hours to reach Jispa from Manali and you can travel by car, bike, or local bus.

“Jispa is a village in Lahaul, in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Jispa is located 22 km north of Keylong and 7 km south of Darcha, along the Manali-Leh Highway and the Bhaga river. There are approximately 20 villages between Jispa and Keylong and you can also stay in most of these villages. The riverside and Himalayan mountain backdrop of Jispa is sure to leave anyone breathless. Travelers take a stopover here at Jispa to stay one night during their travel to Leh. Jispa has located on the way to the beautiful Leh Manali (Manali Leh) highway.”

Jispa Village has some of the best views that you can get on the Leh highway as well as in the Lahaul Valley. Jispa is located at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level. You can get hotels, homestays, and camps between 100 to 2000 INR. While you are in Jispa, do visit Shahsur Gompa, Tayul Gompa, and Punjab State War Heroes Memorial and Museum.

After Crossing the Atul Tunnel you have to pay 200 rupees at the check post to travel further towards Sissu, Keylong, Jispa, and more.
