Thomas Chisholm experienced many disappointments in his life. He was not born into a wealthy family, so he did not have the opportunity to attend high school. His body was also vulnerable, he often fell ill, so he was forced to quit his ministry as a servant of God in the Methodist Church after only one year of service. Then he also started writing, but he received so many rejection letters. Even when his poems were published, he rarely received money for his work.

In 1923 (when Chisholm was 75 years old), he composed this hymn. This praise was composed based on the book of Lamentations which reads, “The steadfast love of the Lord never fails, His mercies never fail. New every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23). When he was asked what inspired him to compose this compliment, he stated that nothing special happened; he wrote lyrics about God's unfailing faithfulness because the Bible states it very clearly and plainly. May this praise open our spiritual eyes to always remember God's faithfulness in the midst of our life's struggles that are not easy to follow God.
