Israr Ahmad (Urdu: اسرار احمد; 26 April 1932 – 14 April 2010), was a Pakistani Islamic leader,[3] and theologian. He developed a following in South Asia but also among some South Asian Muslims in the Middle East, Western Europe, and North America.[4][5][6]
He wrote around 60 books on Islam and Pakistan, of which twenty nine have been translated into several other languages, including in English, as of 2017.[7]

In 1956 he left the Jamaat-e-Islami, which had become involved in electoral politics, to found Tanzeem-e-Islami.[8][4] Like many other Sunni Islamic activists/revivalists he preached that the teachings of the Qur'an and the Sunnah and divine law of Sharia must be implemented in all spheres of life, that the Caliphate must be restored as a true Islamic state, and that Western values and influences were a threat to Islam and Pakistan. He was also known for his belief that Pakistan, not Arab lands, should be the foundation for a new caliphate,[4] that democratic governance was unislamic,[4] and his opposition to Shi'i Islam.[3]



Javed Ahmad Ghamidi (Urdu: جاوید احمد غامدی, romanized: Jāvēd Aḥmad Ghāmidī; April 18, 1952)[3] is a Pakistani philosopher, educationist, and a scholar of Islam. He is also the founding President of Al-Mawrid Institute of Islamic Sciences and its sister organisation Danish Sara.[4]
He became a member of the Council of Islamic Ideology (responsible for giving legal advice on Islamic issues to the Pakistani Government and the country's Parliament) on 28 January 2006, where he remained for a couple of years.[5] He also taught Islamic studies at the Civil Services Academy for more than a decade from 1979 to 1991.[6] He was also a student of Islamic scholar and exegete, Amin Ahsan Islahi. He is running an intellectual movement similar to Wasatiyyah, on the popular electronic media of Pakistan.[7] Currently he is Principal Research Fellow and Chief Patron of Ghamidi Center of Islamic Learning in United States. Javed Ahmad Ghamidi was named in The Muslim 500 (The World's Most Influential Muslims) in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions.
