Upper Mustang is a region located in the north-central part of Nepal, bordering Tibet. It is a remote and mountainous area that was once part of the Kingdom of Lo, a Buddhist kingdom that existed from the 14th to the 18th century. The region is known for its unique landscape of eroded sandstone formations, deep canyons, and high altitude desert terrain.

Upper Mustang is also home to several ancient villages, some of which date back to the medieval period. These villages are characterized by their traditional Tibetan-style architecture, with flat-roofed mud brick houses clustered together in tight-knit communities.
