Cycling along the coast of Perth, from Cottesloe to Trigg

The ride started at Cottesloe Beach, the continued to City Beach, Scarborough Beach and finished at Trigg Beach.

Cottesloe Beach is a popular beach in Cottesloe and one of the most iconic locations of Western Australia. The enduring popularity of the beach is the result of combination of factors including proximity to metropolitan Perth, accessibility by train, shelter from strong summer breezes and presence of offshore reefs making it a relatively safe swimming location. It has been recognized by the Heritage Council as a place of cultural significance since 2005. Since the beginning of the twentieth century a succession of bathing structures and hotels have been constructed in prominent locations overlooking the beach. The current beach-front structure was constructed in 1996 and is known as the Indiana Teahouse. Designed in a neotraditional architectural style it has become an internationally recognized landmark of Perth. The beach hosts the popular Rottnest Channel Swim, and Sculpture by the Sea. It attracts around 600,000 visitors per year.

The beautiful expanses of white sand and excellent facilities at City Beach have earned it the title of Perth's best beach in recent years. Two purpose-built groynes offer excellent fishing and safe swimming, while surfers regularly hit the waves just out to sea. Beautifully landscaped recreational areas have a children's playground, BBQs and picnic tables, as well as toilets, change rooms and outside showers. There's also a kiosk and fine dining restaurant overlooking the water.

Scarborough Beach is one of Perth's most well-known beaches for surfing, sunbathing and swimming. A recent revitalisation of the area has transformed the foreshore, boasting pedestrian promenades, children's playgrounds, art projects, basketball court and exercise equipment, amphitheatre and Sunset Hill – an expansive grassed area for picnicking and playing. Scarborough is also home to the only beach side pool in WA, heated for year-round use.

The long stretch of sand that is Trigg Beach gets reliable and good surfing waves and is the headquarters of Surfing Western Australia. Grab yourself a board and jump in the water. From surf boards to boogie boards to stand-up paddleboards, Trigg Beach sees them all.

Trigg has some pretty big waves and can toss you about a bit if you are not careful, so have a chat with a local or watch the riders out on the waves before venturing in. You can always head down to Surfing Western Australia for some private or group surfing lessons to learn how to surf or refine your skills.
