Ready to harvest your compost but not sure where to start? We have been composting for years and every time our compost is nearing completion we get excited. But what happens when not all of your compost finishes at the same time? We use a compost sifter we built with scrap wood and chicken wire to sift through our compost. Anything that could use more time we throw back into the composter and harvest the rest to put to use in our raised garden beds. We talk about the use of our DIY Compost Sifter and our encounter with grubs. Unlike many other composters out there, we live in a residential neighborhood with a modest garden and are still able to reap the benefits of composting! Every 4 months we have the ability to harvest approximately 2 wheelbarrows of finished compost.
