Here is our version of J.R.R. Tolkien's poem, "A Elbereth Gilthoniel." We hope you enjoy it:)

Description:
This piece is a composite of three songs in honor of Elbereth from the Lord of the Rings. The first is the hymn to Elbereth sung in the Hall of Fire in Rivendell at the beginning of Book 2. The second is the cry to Elbereth sung by Samwise at the end of Book 4 in the encounter with Shelob. The third is the hymn to Elbereth sung by the elves in the Shire in Chapter 3 of Book 1, “Snow-white! Snow-white!” The goal of the piece was to hear these three songs in relation to each other as a development of one thought in many hearts. The last stanza of “Snow-white!” is repeated at the end of the Return of the King, and so it makes for a powerful road into the conclusion of the piece. In the conclusion all hearts are turned to the West.

We are unable to get permission to sell this song so we are posting it here free for your enjoyment. If you want a copy of the mp3, we are offering it to those who support us on Patreon!

My brother composed and arranged the piece. My family sang it.

Please no bad language in the comments. We want this to be family friendly:) Thank you!

Lyrics:

A Elbereth Gilthoniel

A Elbereth Gilthoniel
silivren penna míriel
o menel aglar elenath!

Na-chaered palan-díriel
o galadhremmin ennorath,
Fanuilos, le linnathon
nef aear, si nef aearon!

Na-chaered palan-díriel
o galadhremmin ennorath,
Fanuilos, le linnathon
nef aear, si nef aearon!

Na-chaered palan-díriel
o galadhremmin ennorath,
Fanuilos, le linnathon
nef aear, si nef aearon!

(Samwise Gamgee)
A Elbereth Gilthoniel!
o menel palan-díriel
le nallon sí di'nguruthos!
A tiro nin, Fanuilos!

Gilthoniel! O Elbereth! X5

Snow-white! Snow-white! O Lady clear!
O Queen beyond the Western Seas!
O Light to us that wander here
Amid the world of woven trees!

Gilthoniel! O Elbereth! X2

Clear are thy eyes and bright thy breath!
Snow-white! Snow-white! We sing to thee
In a far land beyond the Sea.

O stars that in the Sunless Year
With shining hand by her were sown,
In windy fields now bright and clear
We see your silver blossom blown!

O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!

We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.

A Elbereth Gilthoniel,
o menel palan-díriel
A tiro nin, Gilthoniel

English Translation:

O Elbereth Starkindler
(white) glittering slants down
sparkling like jewels
from [the] firmament [the] glory [of] the star-host!
To-remote distance far-having gazed
from [the] tree-tangled middle-lands,
Fanuilos, to thee I will chant
on this side of ocean,
here on this side of the Great Ocean!
