We are approaching the 50th anniversary of this event. The escalation of the Vietnam war lead to protests in the streets including Carbondale IL and SIU. This lead to riots on the campus of SIU and in Carbondale on May 11 and 12 1972.
The following was recorded off of police monitors tuned to Carbondale PD (high band radio), SIU University Police (low band radio) and the Illinois State Police on ISPERN. All radios were heard in real time, so you will hear multiple radios at the same time. This was all recorded high up in Schneider Hall on the campus from a dorm room. We also got tear gassed while in the room which lead to an investigation on what police agency gassed the building. A-21 is CPD Chief Dakin. A-2 is the University Police Chief.
