Bike tire puncture protection
Often the wheels of a bicycle are pierced with spines. This is a big problem, especially often this happens at the end of the summer.
I came up with a way to strengthen the bike tire. Thanks to this method, the punctures of the cameras of the bicycle from the thorns will practically stop.
Method tested. I already applied this method on a back wheel of the bicycle, and it works. Now I will do the same with the front wheel of the bike.
I already took off the front wheel from the bicycle and disassembled the tire. Now I will strengthen the tire on this wheel, and this will help protect the camera from being punctured by spikes.
My tire is very thin and soft. It is easily punctured by spines. Since I mainly ride along forest paths, I constantly have to glue it, which makes me very inconvenient.
I will perform all operations with the inside of the tire. Therefore, I turn the tire inside out.
For convenience, I install the turned out tire on the wheel rim along with the camera. The inner part of the tire I will be on the outside. Due to the fact that I pumped the camera installed inside, I have a flat tire and now it will be easy and convenient to carry out further manipulations with it.
A wheel with a twisted tire I set on the fork of the bike. So it will be easier for me to continue working with her.
Now I clean the entire central part of the tire with emery paper. I clean the entire width of the tread completely around the entire circumference. There is no need to clean the sides.
After the entire tire has been cleaned with sandpaper, I degrease it.
I use alcohol for this. I degrease completely the entire tire over the entire trimmed circle.
The tire is ready and now I move on to the next stage.
In the next step, I need to cut a strip of rubber wide with the tread of my tire.
For this, an old unwanted camera will suit me. I have such a camera from the bike "Tourist". From it I will cut the strip of rubber I need. I will use scissors for cutting.
I cut the camera across the nipple. I cut a piece with a nipple, since I do not need it. Next, I cut the camera along the entire length, so I got a strip. To get to cut the camera smoothly, I cut along the line. Such lines are available on all cameras and they are obtained in the process of manufacturing cameras.
The tire size on my bike is 2.1 inches. The camera, which I spread to the lane - from the bike "Tourist". It is thin in diameter and therefore, I have just the width of the rubber band that I need. If you use another camera with a larger diameter, the strip will be wider, and then it will need to be cut again from one side to get a strip of the required width. For the manufacture of such a rubber strip is better to use a thicker chamber. The camera from the moped is perfect for this, since it is thicker than the bicycle camera, respectively, and the tire puncture protection will be more effective.
Now I need to clean one of the sides of the rubber strip I have with sandpaper. This can be done manually, but it will take a lot of time.
I have a belt sander. Therefore, to speed up the process, I will apply it.
We clean the rubber strip along the entire length with a belt sander.
That's how it turned out to process the rubber strip on a belt sander. This is much faster than if I did the whole thing manually.
Now I degrease the smoothed side of the rubber band with alcohol. I will stick it on the tire. Thanks to this rubber band, the tire tread will become thicker, and the spikes will not reach the camera itself.
For gluing, I use glue 88. I specifically bought a large jar of glue, as the glue in the tube is not enough. For applying glue, I use an old, unnecessary toothbrush. It will perfectly replace my brush.
First, I smear the rubber strip. I put it on the table and apply with a toothbrush a thin layer of glue along its entire length. As the glue is applied, I move the smeared part of the strip forward.
After the glue has been applied to the strip, I lay it aside to dry.
