Hope Worldwide-Pakistan recently organized a special Marae visit to foster integration and cultural appreciation among community members. This visit brought together refugees, asylum seekers, and new community members under the community refugee sponsorship program, creating an enriching experience for all participants.

Collaborating closely with local Māori communities, we built strong relationships and learned about their rich cultural heritage.The marae, including the Wharenui (meeting house) or Whare Tīpuna (ancestral house), served as the central hub for our activities.

Throughout the visit, we engaged in activities that deepened our understanding of Māori customs, traditions, and values. Interactive workshops, language sessions, and performances helped us connect more deeply with Māori culture.

The Marae visit promoted cultural understanding, appreciation, and unity within our diverse community. It fostered a sense of community and togetherness, where migrants, former refugees, and seniors could join hands and create lasting bonds. The traditional Māori food and warm hospitality added a delightful cultural touch.

Participants also took part in te reo learning workshops, embracing the opportunity to learn the Māori language and customs. Through whakawhanaungatanga (relationship-building) activities, attendees formed meaningful connections, strengthening community spirit.
