Ever wondered what it's like riding a local bus in Panjim Goa? Well, before I forgot what it felt like, I decided to use the public transport aka the KTC [Kadamba Transport Corporation] bus for the first since the lockdown was announced in March. I also took a quick walk around the Panjim Bus Stand to see if it's as crowded as it used to be. Sadly, it wasn't! Even after all these months and in spite of most of the restrictions being lifted, the Bus stand looked quite deserted.
These buses are Goa's main mode of public transportation that connects different parts of Goa. Although, it's not one of the most robust transport systems, but people have gotten used to travelling from far flung corners of Goa to work in the commercial areas. The lack of proper public transport system is probably one of the biggest challenges that people face here.
There are other options as well like taxis, bikes and auto-rickshaws, but these mostly cater to tourists and tariffs are way too high for a daily commuter. In a sense, these old rickety buses are like a lifeline for Goans.
I hope you enjoy this interesting ride, with some peppy bollywood songs playing in the background, and walk around Goa's major transport hub.
