2023 is the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Elvis Presley Aloha Concert from Hawaii!
The audience attending made donations to receive their ticket. The goal was to raise $25,000. This goal was exceeded, with donation collection of $75,000. In today's economy, that's around $400,00 - $500,000, and this money was given to the cancer research program at the University of Hawaii and dedicated to local singer-songwriter Kui Lee who died in 1966 because of lymph gland cancer.
On Jan. 14, 1973, Elvis Presley was the first single artist to be broadcast via Satellite worldwide and at the time, this was cutting-edge technology. The concert took place at the Honolulu International Center (now known as the Neal S. Blaisdell Center), and was seen by an estimated 1.5 Billion people in about 40 countries! 51% of the United States viewing audience watched this concert and it was seen in more households than man’s first walk on the moon!
Thank you for watching!
