Located in Vence (Provence), 3000 year-old Saint-Paul-de-Vence reached a new epoch of glory at the beginning of the 20th century, when it became the headquarters of artists, making Paris one of its outskirts (to quote Charles Trenet). This was mainly due to the famous Auberge de la Colombe d'Or, whose founders befriended writers (Prévert, Cocteau) and artists, such as Renoir, Mattisse, Picasso, Chagall, Yves Montand and Simone Signoret (who celebrated their wedding here in 1951). It is also here that actor-singer Serge Reggiani became a painter himself, as a result of his friendship with Picasso and of the wonderful views offered by the windows of the Colombe d'Or.
Now, it's time you (re)discovered this unique place which has preserved its Bohemian atmosphere, with narrow cobbled streets, high stone houses, squares and fountains, surrounded by defence walls. A huge "THANK YOU" to my friends, Ellen and Adele, for having supplemented my pictures with theirs (all taken in August 2012).
