I was whistling this tune while washing the dishes, and Granny said, "We ought to sing that song." She recognized the tune because she and Pap used to sing it. Pap and his brother, Ray, also sung it. It was on the same 1966 Jim and Jesse album as the last song that Granny and I uploaded. As I finished washing the dishes, "I said, sure, Doll, if you want to." She took her cane and disappeared into her bedroom. She came back wearing this very pretty shirt. I told her that if Katie sees it, she'll want it. :-) This song is surprisingly hard to sing. The notes are so easy to go flat or sharp on (which I did several times), because the words or syllables that fall on those notes are kind of hard to form into those pitches (like the word "Him"), but it is a very good song, one of encouragement. Several times in the book of Psalms, David talks about singing a new song to God. We know that God is a creative God, the Creator of everything, and the writer of this song, like David, believed that it pleases the Lord when we use the creativity that He gave us to create something to honor Him. The songwriter also says that we benefit when we create and perform something for God--that God lifts us up in response. I searched online but couldn't find the songwriter's name. I hope you enjoyed this duet with Granny. Somewhere, I believe I have a recording of her singing the song with Pap. If I can find it, I may share it. Next month, I'll upload a song for Hank's birthday, and on the day after, I hope to upload a special video to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wilson Brothers' first album, Words of Life. I hope you all "tune in" for those videos. The last "coming soon" thing that I'll mention in this description is that the new CD of Pap's songs that I have been producing over the past six years is finally at the duplication house. I have been exchanging email messages with the artwork department, requesting small changes here and there. I hope to receive new proofs Monday evening and to be able to give them final approval to start printing everything. The title of the album is Live to Never Die. When we have the new CD's, we'll let everyone know, perhaps with a video. Thanks for reading all of this! You can hear Jim and Jesse's version of "Sing unto Him" by searching on YouTube.
