I wanted to learn how to compound and polish gelcoat and how to use a rotary buffer so I practiced on an old fiberglass canoe I had. It came out great and I learned a ton! Most of the process is described in the video. For compound I used 7' wool pads and started with 3M Heavy Cut (2 full applications/passes) and then did a final pass with 3M EXAC compound. I used Simichrome metal polish, and very fine grit foam sanding pads for certain really corroded areas, to clean up the aluminum gunwales and thwart.
