â˘Â What are light years?  | LEARNING WIT... Â
----
Hello Happy friends!
Are you ready to learn?
Iâm Sarah, and today, weâre going to talk about something that makes very very sad⌠I personally love animals, and it makes me extremely sad when I find out that they are in danger of extinction.
Today, weâre going to talk about very special monkeys orangutans.
The other day I found out, that orangutans are about to disappear.
According to Greenpeace, and other organisations that care for nature, over the last years, over 140 thousand orangutans have died.
And that classifies them as critically endangered in the endangered species chart.
That means, that they are about to completely disappear, but, do you know why?
Well because their habitats, jungles where they live, and where they feed are being destroyed. Itâs as if we had our houses, cities and towns destroyed, and we didnât have a place to live!
And do you know why itâs being done? To get palm oil.
Many companies, use this oil to make food, creams, and lots of other things.
To obtain it, they are cutting down trees in tropical rainforests, and then they burn the rest, so they can plant the oil palms, which is the plant that gives the fruit, from which we obtain the oil, the palm oil.
Orangutans can no longer live, they die during the fires or because they are hunted.
Look at this map.
In this country, called Indonesia, full of islands, and tropical rainforests, in 2015, there have been more than 100 thousand intentional fires. This is too much!
And of course, because of these fires, and deforestations, the orangutans who used to live there, have disappeared, they have died, and lots of other animals have died with them.
Itâs so sad but, we still have hope!
We need to stop consuming palm oil products NOW.
Lots of these, are cakes and biscuits that we eat at breakfast.
When you do the shopping, have a look at the ingredients, and tell your parents not to buy anything that contains palm oil.
No pastries, creams or anything at all!
Goodbye happy friends! See you next time!
Donât forget that we can all make a little change, so that orangutans can live happily in the wild.
I hope youâre always ready to learn!
Goodbye!
