Quality System Officer and Representative Çağatay Özdemir shares information about the quality department, quality certificates and his advice to young engineers.

Quality is not controlled, quality is produced.
Çağatay Özdemir was born in Trabzon in 1975. I am a graduate of Istanbul Technical University in Space Engineering.
Since I had a little difficulty finding a job in my field, I threw myself into the quality business.
And I'm very pleased.
Manufacturing is really an enjoyable subject.
I am proud to serve the Turkish people in a Turkish in Turkey.
Currently, I am the quality system manager and management representative at Sağlam Metal.
In this sense, we continue to work on the quality management system documents, field applications, documentation applications and related audits in our company.
With regard to our quality management system documents.
We have 6 certificates of international standards and, in addition to these, we have a certificate related to aviation.
As for these six documents: we have the classic ISO 9001 quality management system
27001 Information Security Management System
45001 Occupational Health and Safety Quality System 14001 Environmental Safety Management System 10002 Customer Satisfaction Management System and the ISO 9001 based AS 9100 Quality Management System These are the management system documents our factory has.
All of these documents, which are based on ISO 9001 and
the AS 9100 document, which is its higher version, are, in general,
related to how to manage things well in a factory.
These are then sub-divided into things like
how to handle matters related to human health, to the environment at work, to customer satisfaction.
How to ensure information security.
Our business is a company that values human health and the environment.
We have a culture that values the nature, the environment, the people;
everything related to life.
In recent years we have started concentrating on sustainable development
and so the importance, value and investment our company attaches to these documents also reflects the company's culture.
This is one of the best reasons I am here, actually, and it's what makes me like quality.
Another special reason is Sağlam Metal’s “we are a family” approach, a motto heard generally in business life.
I have been working since about ‘96, and I have been in production since 2003.
Sağlam Metal is really a place where you experience the “we are family” concept.
This element really motivates me.
The most “disciplined” among the quality certificates is AS 9100, which is a defense and aviation quality system certificate.
It is already based on ISO 9001 and
similar to 16949, which is an automotive quality management system also based on ISO 9001.
Of course, since the sector it is addressing is defense and aviation, and defense and aviation elements
also deal with safety and human health and due to the field in which it is used,
if we think of this as military and civil defense,
since it is “serious”,
it is a tougher discipline compared to ISO 9001.
There are not many companies with this certificate.
In a sectoral sense, I can say that as a country, we have only recently started to develop applications that require this document.
Defense, aviation and space related work has progressed considerably in Turkey in the last 10-15 years.
In this sense, it is important that our company provides both civilian and military services in this sector or in these areas,
that it contributes to national and localization efforts.
One of the characteristics of our company is that we make these efforts without looking at the profit-making element, which is the purpose of every organization,
to serve in this field, to undertake many projects without considering profitability in order to do our part in this field,
Even the existence of this document is important; after all,
defense and aviation, which is the main element of this document constitutes only a certain percentage of our company turnover.
Many companies are unable to finance this document for this percentage and to enter into works under the scope of this document.
But as I said, national and domestic elements are important and valuable in our company.
Because one of the reasons it exists is to add value to our country.
Projects falling under the scope of this document are always a priority.
In that sense they also make a great contribution to the company, because these are really tough projects.
In other words, the production, the purchasing behind the production, the quality elements before and during manufacturing are followed very closely.
The quality understanding of our company can actually be summarized as “quality is not controlled, quality is produced”...
