Hello everyone, in today's video I will be discussing the first documented tragedy on the Appalachian Trail which happened back in May of 1974. Joel Polson and Margaret Harritt set off to complete a thruhike of the Appalachian Trail. They were both novice hikers but brimming with enthusiasm. They started their hike at Springer Mountain in Georgia in May of 1974. Joel Polson would never leave the Appalachian Trail and Margaret would narrowly escape with her life.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Joel Eugene Polson, his family and friends 🙏
