Paul wrote these letters because of his care and concern for the church that he founded. He seemed satisfied with the progress the Thessalonians had made (1 Thessalonians 3:6-10), however, he wanted to address the problem of persecution and encourage the Thessalonian believers. Both 1 and 2 Thessalonians begin and end with a concern for peace (1 Thess 1:1; 5:23; 2 Thess 1:2; 3:16).
