Welcome friends. This is my first video of 2023, and it's a bit of a strange one for me, more history that has become folklore, the last Witch Trials and deaths to be documented in England, but a story that has always fascinated me. The Bideford Witches are still remembered to this day in Exeter in Devon where their trial was held, a plaque can be found commemorating their lives in the ruins of Rougemont Castle where they were put on trial. This is a sad tale of three humble poor women and their ridiculous persecution by gossips...a tale not unfamiliar to anyone who has read up on the history of Witches. The same bias, fear and anger fell upon these 3 women as it did in all other Witch trials such as at Salem in the States; in Lancashire with the Pendle Witches and the Matthew Hopkins trials. I felt it was time to honour these ladies with an episode of their own, and with a kind mention to another lady persecuted but not documented. May they all rest in peace.
