When a mountain bike breaks, it's never going to break in one way, all the time. There's a multitude of different moving parts which could go wrong! This means that you can never just carry one tool for the one job, in case it's not that tool that you need. So the answer is to be prepared for anything, take a sensible array of tools with you for use in case you need them. Now, this doesn't mean purchasing a large rucksack and carrying the kitchen sink, no! You can be smart with it and use some of these hacks to stash things you may need in an emergency to your bike, so that you've always got them to hand!
