Sleep Apnea
Sleep apnea is a common disorder characterized by discontinuous breathing during sleep. Such discontinuous breathing makes one wake up in middle of the night with a loud snore. This condition is usually associated with morning headaches & insomnia.

Symptoms:
• Waking up in the middle of the night with a loud snore
• Morning headaches
• Insomnia

Causes:
• Obesity
• Enlarged tonsils in children may also lead to this condition

Food groups to consume in sleep apnea:
1. Fiber: These foods keep one fuller for longer
Foods to consume: Broccoli, cabbage, leafy greens, brussels sprouts & whole grains like brown rice, oats & millets
2. Plant- based oils like olive oil & canola: They are rich in
unsaturated fats that help to lose weight, promote brain
function & improve heart health
3. Low fat diary products such as low fat yogurt & skimmed milk

• Avoid coffee, alcohol and smoking as these can affect sleep
patterns
• Avoid any foods which are high in fats, especially any junk or
fried foods
