In this video we explore how to use Spectravox in combination with rhythmic sequencers to create sounds similar to the preset drum machines of the 1970’s or those found on vintage organs.
First, we look at generating an appropriate sound with the Carrier section which will form the tonal base of all the drum sounds in our drum machine. Next, we connect rhythmic sequences from a trigger sequencer (in this case ALM’s Pamela’s New Workout) to each of Spectravox’s ten bands to create kick drums, snares, and wood blocks. Flipping the Bands 9 & 10 switch to Hiss allows us to create hi-hats with the two upper bands. Adjusting Spectravox’s panel controls opens a world of spectral changes for our drum machine, and we explore integrating further external control voltages for unique rhythmic sounds.
