'Prince Hodong (1974)' by Song Beom, the first director of the National Dance Company, which established the foundation of dance play with the goal of 'dance that the public can see and enjoy' is known as a work that opened the era of 'Korean dance drama'. After that, 'Hodong' met the audience again with 'The Sky, The Drums (1990-1991)', and it is evaluated that dance drama as a genre contributed to establishing itself as a major root of Korean dance.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the National Dance Company of Korea presents '2022 Dance Play Hodong' to confirm its identity through modern reorganization of dance play and expand it into a future tradition. Leading by artistic director Son In-young, Lee Gi-na, the representative director of Korea, will be in charge of scripting and directing, and National Dance Company of Korea Jeong So-yeon, Song Ji-young, and Song Seol will present sensuous choreography that preserves the elegance of the classics. Music director ESet (Kim Seong-soo), who is renowned for his in-depth music world, and designers Min Cheon-hong and Park Eun-hye, who will complete sophisticated mise-en-scène, will also join the top creative team. The classic, futuristic, traditional and sensuous dance drama '2022 Dance Play Hodong' meets the audience at the Haeoreum Theater in October.
