Surprisingly baby toad likes to be where the hanging plants are planted.
A 5 gallon enclosure should not be a permanent for a American toad! You should increase their enclosure size as they get bigger. 20 Gallon enclosure is the minimum size for a adult.

If you choose to use the same substrate mix make sure to use rocks/pebbles and bark that can not fit in the toads mouth.
šŸ‚ Substrate šŸ‚ :
2 parts coco fiber / coir
1 part Bark
1 part pea gravel (menards seems cheapest)
1 part dirt
I would suggest a mix of 50/50 of soil and coco fiber.
I heated up soil to try an kill any potential pests.

A lot of these plants are I'm just testing.

šŸŒ± Plants šŸŒ± :
Marble queen pothos
Satin Pothos
Arrowhead plant
Thyme
Brandi philodendron
Ledebouria sociallis
Moss (2 types)
Peter Pan Ivy
Oak leaf creeping fig
Creeping Jenny (i think what the left hanging plant is called)

How I grew the moss myself:
