Today we are going to start working on a ally commands system which allows player to control ally behaviors such as follow me and halt/wait, fire at will etc. Here we will lay the foundation for a more complex ally commands system which will allow player to control the allies in a meticulous way depending on the gameplay situation. When follow me command is activated, allies or squad will keep following the player and halt or wait command will stop allies following the player. Both behaviors will be implemented as a separate behavior tree that is nested into a single main behavior tree that controls the NPC AI characters and based on the given commands, the follow and halt sub behavior trees will be overridden dynamically using SetDynamicSubtree function on behavior tree component.
