For 36 years, Beetlejuice surpassed its film origins to become a pop culture icon, showing up everywhere from Halloween decorations to Saturday morning cartoons. The film was a quirky masterpiece of irreverent humor, bizarre creature designs, and a career-defining performance by Michael Keaton as the unhinged bio-exorcist.

But after decades of buildup, the long-awaited sequel, struggles to reclaim the anarchic spirit of the original. While it brings back much of the original cast and revives Burton’s signature visual flair, the film stumbles under the weight of a cluttered plot, wasted characters and a lack of heart.
