In this video, we explore how to identify drought severity using time series analysis with the SPEI dataset in Google Earth Engine, covering data from 1980 to 2023. Starting with the HydroBASINS level 6 dataset, we define our region of interest and visualize it on the map. We then delve into filtering the SPEI dataset to focus on the 12-month index, and proceed to calculate the mean SPEI values across our study area.

By classifying the drought severity into categories—ranging from severe drought to no drought—we create a clear temporal classification. Finally, we generate a time series chart that beautifully illustrates the drought conditions over the last four decades. Whether you're interested in climate analysis or Earth Engine scripting, this tutorial will equip you with essential skills to analyze drought patterns effectively. ‪@TerraSpatial‬
