The global workshop on funding and financing transboundary water cooperation and basin development took place on 5-6 December 2023 in Geneva. It was organized by the water Convention secretariat (UNECE) under the leadership of Switzerland and the Netherlands, and in collaboration with Senegal, the Asian Development Bank (ADB); the Global Environment Facility (GEF); the Global Environment Facility International Waters Learning Exchange and Resources Network (GEF IW:LEARN), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB); the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); the United Nations Capital Development Funds (UNCDF); and the World Bank. The workshop aimed at discussing how to further mobilize both public and private financial resources to support transboundary water cooperation and management. More than 200 participants representing the water community (countries; RBOs) and the financing community (IFIs, bilateral donors, private financers) exchanged and shared their experiences during 2 days.
