Can you find arrowheads and stone artifacts with a metal detector? Yes. This video is proof you can....well kind of. In this video ScrapIron is metal detecting a site that was inhabited by Native Americans for a long, long, time.

This is a very cool dig. ScrapIron digs a metal target which turned out to be a brass piece that was part of an old flintlock rifle. It also turns out, this gun part was laying directly on top of a Native American stone hide scraping tool. How cool is it to catch that on video?

Keep in mind, humans tend to congregate in locations that make their way of life better. Whether it is a water source, fertile ground, or abundant game. This area has been inhabited for many years with generations of people from the stone age to today.

Although a metal detector won't directly find stone artifacts, in a location such as this, you will certainly find them if they are there. It happens on almost every trip. Collectively our group of metal detectorists have dug up THOUSANDS of stone tools while metal detecting. When you at a site like this and start finding extremely early metal pieces, you are likely in a location where you will run across stone artifacts of some sort.

Now try thinking of this: If you have an area you currently hunt for stone tools, why not grab a metal detector and see what you can find? Even a handheld pinpointer metal detector will work. Give it a try, you might be really surprised.
