For the month before the hurricane Helene floods, we visited the mountains of North Carolina and Gatlinburg. On the advice of a friend who lives in the area we took a day to visit Chimney Rock.

This feature was a private attraction until 2007 when the feature was purchased by the state of North Carolina. There are 499 steps to get to the visitor center on top of the rock and 44 more steps to reach the level where the flagpole is.
