Read the poem below carefully and answer any five questions: 10x5=50
When I consider how my light is spent,
Ere half my days in this dark world and wide.
And that one talent which is death to hide.
Lodg'd with me useless, though my soul more bent
To serve therewith my Maker and present
My true account, lest he returning chide;
Doth God exact day-labour, light deny'd?
I fondly ask; but Patience to Prevent
That murmur, soon replies, "God doth not need,
Either man's work or his own gifts. Who best
Bear his mild yoke, they serve him best. His, state
Is Kingly thousands at his bidding speed,
And post o'er land and ocean without rest;

10. What is the central theme of the poem and how is it presented by the poet?
=কবিতার কেন্দ্রীয় বিষয় কী এবং কবি কীভাবে তা উপস্থাপন করেছেন?
Ans. The central theme of the poem is the inner conflict in the mind of a man. This poem shows the inner conflict of poet who had wished to do his best to serve God by his writings. But he couldn't complete that because he became blind at the middle of his life. The poet was a religious man, and he firmly believed that God had given him the poetic talent to serve Him through writings.
কবিতার কেন্দ্রীয় বিষয়বস্তু হল একজন মানুষের মনের অন্তর্দ্বন্দ্ব। এই কবিতাটি কবির অভ্যন্তরীণ দ্বন্দ্বকে দেখায় যিনি তাঁর লেখার মাধ্যমে ঈশ্বরের সেবা করার জন্য সর্বোত্তম চেষ্টা করেছিলেন। কিন্তু তিনি তা সম্পূর্ণ করতে পারেননি কারণ জীবনের মাঝখানে তিনি অন্ধ হয়ে যান। কবি একজন ধার্মিক মানুষ ছিলেন এবং তিনি দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করতেন যে ঈশ্বর তাঁকে লেখার মাধ্যমে তাঁর সেবা করার কাব্যিক প্রতিভা দিয়েছেন।

When he became totally blind, and hence unable to write, he felt a sense of guilt that God will give him severe punishment for his failure to do the duty assigned by his Master. Then the poet thought that he was not responsible for his blindness. Rather God was responsible for his sufferings. This sense of guilty created an inner conflict in his mind.
যখন সে সম্পূর্ণ অন্ধ হয়ে গেল, এবং তাই লিখতে অক্ষম, তখন সে অপরাধবোধ অনুভব করল যে তার প্রভুর অর্পিত দায়িত্ব পালনে ব্যর্থতার জন্য ঈশ্বর তাকে কঠিন শাস্তি দেবেন। তখন কবি মনে করলেন তার অন্ধত্বের জন্য তিনি দায়ী নন। বরং তার কষ্টের জন্য ঈশ্বর দায়ী ছিলেন। এই অপরাধবোধ তার মনে একটা অভ্যন্তরীণ দ্বন্দ্ব তৈরি করে।
11. Now does the poet console himself at the end of the poem?
Ans. In this poem, we see the poet afflicted and aggrieved as he had lost his sight at the middle age of his life. He was disappointed very much losing his sight as he was nearly unable to write. At the end of this poem, he consoles himself with some beautiful logic.
উঃ। এই কবিতায় আমরা কবিকে দুঃখিত ও ব্যথিত দেখতে পাই কারণ তিনি তাঁর জীবনের মধ্য বয়সে দৃষ্টিশক্তি হারিয়েছিলেন। তিনি প্রায় লিখতে অক্ষম হওয়ায় দৃষ্টিশক্তি হারিয়ে তিনি খুবই হতাশ হয়ে পড়েছিলেন। এই কবিতার শেষে তিনি কিছু সুন্দর যুক্তি দিয়ে নিজেকে সান্ত্বনা দেন।

The poet was a deeply religious man, and he believed that the purpose of life was to serve God with the gifts he has got from Him. He also believed that God had given him poetic talent for writing religious poems as much as possible. He was very much inclined to serve God but he could do nothing as his ability to write was badly threatened. As a result, his relationship with God became complicated. He could not decide what to do though he was terribly suffering from mental conflict. At last, he came to a solution to his problem thinking himself.
কবি একজন গভীরভাবে ধার্মিক মানুষ ছিলেন এবং তিনি বিশ্বাস করতেন যে জীবনের উদ্দেশ্য হল তাঁর কাছ থেকে পাওয়া উপহার দিয়ে ঈশ্বরের সেবা করা। তিনি আরও বিশ্বাস করতেন যে ঈশ্বর তাকে যথাসম্ভব ধর্মীয় কবিতা লেখার জন্য কাব্যিক প্রতিভা দিয়েছেন। তিনি ঈশ্বরের সেবা করার জন্য খুব আগ্রহী ছিলেন কিন্তু তিনি কিছুই করতে পারেননি কারণ তার লেখার ক্ষমতা খারাপভাবে হুমকির মুখে পড়েছিল। ফলে ঈশ্বরের সঙ্গে তার সম্পর্ক জটিল হয়ে ওঠে। ভয়ানক মানসিক দ্বন্দ্বে ভুগলেও কি করবেন সিদ্ধান্ত নিতে পারছিলেন না। অবশেষে, তিনি নিজেই চিন্তা করে তার সমস্যার সমাধান করলেন।

When such fears trouble him, for a moment his soul is disturbed by questioning the justice of God. But at once the religious conscience quiets his soul. He realizes that God doesn't care for the service of man; nor does He care if His gifts are used or not. He is the King of kings and He had thousands of angels serving Him day and night, over earth and sea. Service to God consists not only in active work but also in patient resignation to His will and dispensation.
যখন এই ধরনের ভয় তাকে কষ্ট দেয়, ক্ষণিকের জন্য তার আত্মা ঈশ্বরের ন্যায়বিচারকে প্রশ্নবিদ্ধ করে বিরক্ত হয়। কিন্তু তৎক্ষণাৎ ধর্মীয় বিবেক তার আত্মাকে শান্ত করে। সে বুঝতে পারে যে, ঈশ্বর মানুষের সেবার পরোয়া করেন না; বা তিনি তার উপহার ব্যবহার করা হয়
