Self-drive rail car at RailCruising, Rotorua, New Zealand.

They have scheduled trips and booking is a must. To know more see their website: https://railcruising.com

It's very expensive for $76 per adult. Children ages 5 below are free. We went along a gorse lined railway track with some nice views for about 30 minutes and back. Not much to see especially with two young children and we were a bit frustrated given the expensive price.

It was a warm sunny day and we didn't bring our jackets but it was windy and cold during our railway trip. Thankfully they have mats like cover available in the Rail Car to cover ourselves plus we had to pull down the thick transparent plastic cover both sides. The plastic cover and the windshield are not clear enough though to allow us to take nice photos/videos of the outside. There's some neat commentary on the history of the area and the railway but with our little boys can't focus listening and the Rail car is very noisy.

Anyway, you can stop along the way and take nice photos but don't know why we forgot to do it. We forgot it was a self-drive rail car!

Despite of the above we enjoyed the experience and had fun together during the whole trip otherwise it must have been boring on our way back.
